Jerry Butler & The Blu-J's
Latest to join SEBA Band Family
You may or may not know his name but there's a good chance you've heard his voice as many did at the WRFG fundraiser in Clarkston, GA on April 3rd. The former lead singer and guitarist for Pine Mountain Railroad was the voice behind the national jingle ad campaign for Tennessee Pride Country Sausage Company. "For real country sausage, the best you ever tried, pick up a pound or two of Tennessee Pride."The veteran performer joins the ranks of SEBA bands who support our music communities.
Jerry likes the idea of being part of SEBA which became known to him by Lorraine Jordan. Most recently Jerry has been a member of Lorraine's band who encouraged him to make the move to step out with his own band and now he's done it. When asked about his career, Jerry explained that when not performing with Carolina Road, he and other musicians were putting some pretty good music together. When it came time to form and name the band, it seemed everyone's first name (whether they stayed or left the project) started with a "J", thus the Blu-J's name stuck. In fact he and John Wade have a new CD on Blue Circle Records, Haulin Grass, a set of Bluegrass-style trucking-inspired songs. Joined by Ron Stewart on fiddle, Kenny Ingram on banjo, Chris Harris on mandolin and Matt Leadbetter on resonator guitar. Steve Gulley and Melissa Lawrence add harmony vocals on the album as well. A review of the CD follows soon here in the Breakdown.
Jerry and the J's are booked on a "bluegrass cruise" in 2011.
